Time4Safety: An Early Childhood Safe Learning Environment Initiative

The purpose of the Time for Safety Initiative was to promote a culture of health and safety in the family child care setting. The ninety-day initiative allowed participants to direct their own learning and development experience. Providers participated in 4 health and safety virtual learning experiences such as "Incorporating Health and Safety Practices into the Learning Environment." The Initiative Leads conducted an initial safety assessment using the “Health and Safety Checklist for Home-based (Family Child Care Home) Child Care Providers.” The baseline data collected was analyzed and shared with both the providers and interested stakeholders. Safe Learning Environment Plans were developed with each provider (using baseline data) and included measurable checkpoints. Providers also used safety concepts to promote early learning teaching practices and stimulate parental involvement. Fifteen providers participated in the initiative. The initiative results are outlined in the summary report (please email for a copy of the report).
